Girls not Brides

Dear Friends,  1 in 9 girls is forced into marriage before her 15th Birthday! And We are determined to change this. This is a story of Rashmi & Gauri, the two sisters at FFLV schools who were being forced to marry as young as 16 & 12!! Their father fixed their marriage date for the 27th of July 2017, adamant that this was best for their future. We had little hope fighting against a man whose rigid orthodox beliefs were not scared of the law or any legal action against him. However, we were rigid too! Our Child Protection Team worked day in and out with the police and every government department that could help. After a few police visits and a letter of warning from the government, their father finally gave in and allowed his daughters to come back to school. They are happy to be back and are now looking forward to […]

The First Group’s Kick Up Challenge raises $21,000 for Girl Education at FFLV

Dubai-based property developer and Food for Life Vrindavan (FFLV) patron The First Group (TFG) recently enlisted legendary England striker Michael Owen to take part in a charity challenge with all proceeds going towards supporting the organisation’s work in India, including girls’ education.   The firm’s Co-Founder and Joint Chairman, Danny Lubert, invited the former footballer, who is also one of the company’s brand ambassadors, to perform 25 kick-ups, promising to donate AED1,000 ($272) for every kick-up completed. The former England, Liverpool and Real Madrid striker not only met, but far exceeded the challenge, performing 77 kick ups in total, equating to a final donation of AED77,000 ($21,000)!   The ‘Kick Up Challenge’ was staged at the TFG Fitness & Wellness Hub, a state-of-the-art fitness facility created for the firm’s employees and located in its Dubai headquarters.   TFG is a proud patron of FFLV and also sponsors 100 girls housed by […]

Awareness, Education & Pompoms!

Dear Friends, It really encourages & inspires us when someone goes an extra mile to help FFLV girls. We recently had Lizzy Medynskyj (Creator of Above the Canopy), visit FFLV. When she went back she decided to organize a Pompom Making Workshop to spread awareness about girl education and to raise funds. The workshop raised $250 AUD which she donated towards FFLV girls. We are really grateful for that Lizzy! The drive behind her efforts was her experience here at FFLV. She shared her heart with us in her writing below: My name is Lizzy. I’m an artist and knitted jewellery designer and creator from Sydney, Australia. I was inspired to visit India by my yoga teacher and friend, Keith Kempis who was about to lead a pilgrimage. It was billed as an ‘exploration of India’s creative heart’. With Seema Johari as our guide, we visited Vrindavan and the Hare Krishna temple, the Goshala and […]
