Mercedes Alonso visits FFLV

Early this October, we had the honor of having Mercedes Alonso, The deputy of Family and Citizenship, a Spanish politician of the Partido Popular, with us at FFLV. On her 3 days visit to Vrindavan, she spent most of her time with the girls of Sandipani Muni School and was pleased to see the project. She was also the guest of honor of a very special evening program which we organized to distribute Girl’s Fund to our girls who have recently graduated. This program was also attended by Luis Pulido, the President of the Board of the Dharma Foundation in Spain.

Mercedes Alonso took to social media to share what she felt about our project- “Checking the work that the Dharma Foundation is doing in one of the poorest areas of India, Vrindavan, in which they have built three schools to educate girls living on the streets, the poorest, and those who lack elementary education. These girls with their families live on the streets, surrounded by garbage and cows, dogs and monkeys. Where life lacks value. They are born on the streets, surrounded by garbage, No school, No health, No water, No light, No food.

Dharma Foundation gives these girls the opportunity to study and eat twice a day. It gives them dignity because with their uniforms they feel proud, they are grateful and know that they are very lucky to have been chosen. They are now the owners of their destiny. They don’t have to be married if they don’t want to, they can get a job and be independent. And all thanks to good people as they are the members of the Dharma Foundation and their sponsors, among which is the diputación de Alicante, through the area of family and citizenship. How lucky we are to live in a country like ours!”
Alonso has also sponsored 3 years of University education for our 5 girls. She has always emphasized the importance of education specially for girls, and that how essential and necessary it is to stop the dynamics of poverty and inequality with the girls, which is transmitted from generation to generation.
It was a pleasure to have her here and we hope that she comes again next year.
About Girl’s Fund:- Out of the sponsorship amount of $45 a month, $5 every month is held in a special fund until the girl is 18 years old. After which she will get the funds and be able to choose how she would like to spend it.
