Born and raised in Argentina, I was working as a Systems Engineer. I started studying Yoga in 2012 and in 2014, I decided and told myself ‘My next big trip is to India’. It took me a while and started my journey to India in January 2017. Before coming to India, I had only read about the country, about the social status of women here, about the culture and about the people here. But no matter how much you read about it, India never fails to surprise you.
During my journey, someone told me that my last name ‘Mottura’ is similar to the name of the city ‘Mathura’ in the state of Uttar Pradesh. I decided to explore the city and finally arrived in Vrindavan. While looking for a place to live, I ended up being at Food for Life Vrindavan. The day I visited Sandipani Muni School, I got goose bumps when I saw the place replete with so many beautiful women enjoying free education in a country where being a woman and studying is something that defies imposed rules. And it does not end there, when you see the whole organisation behind and how much they do to keep the administration in a row, you don’t have doubts. You want to stay and help in whatever way you can for whatever time you have available. – Vanesa Mottura, Argentina.
